RPS Ambache Fund award recipients
Audiovisability are delighted to be a Royal Philharmonic Society’s RPS Ambache Fund (LINK) recipient.
Our award of £2,000 will allow us to deliver this innovative project celebrating the work of Deaf composer, Dame Ethel Smyth. An all-female ensemble shall perform works by Smyth with original narration to educate audiences who may be unfamiliar with her work.
We aim to shine light on the work Smyth is famous for and her lifelong passion for the rights of women. Whilst known extensively throughout mainstream and LGBTQI+ communities, her work is lesser known in the Deaf community. We want to move away from traditional tropes, and to inspire and inform audiences with her unique story. As part of our wider outreach programme, Audiovisability shall engage with local schools and deliver workshops in British Sign Language (BSL) to encourage participation of deaf children in classical music.
Delivered in BSL and interpreted into spoken English.
We are very excited to be featuring an all-female ensemble and to have our finale piece performed by the wonderful Barcarolle Choir. A full list of performers shall be announced in the new year.
The recital shall be held in Central London in Summer 2027. Further details to be announced in due course.
